How to compress a PDF to 100KB
- Add your PDF. The target is already set to 100KB.
- Choose Strong for scans and photos, or Recommended to keep more detail.
- Compress, check that the new size is under 100KB, and download.
Getting a scan under 100KB
100KB leaves very little room, so it works best for one or two pages.
- Scan in grayscale. If the form doesn't need color, set your scanner or scanning app to grayscale (or black and white for plain text). A grayscale scan is much smaller than a color one before you even compress it.
- Lower the resolution. 150 dpi is usually enough to read on screen.
- Send only the pages that are required.
If it won't go below 100KB
PDFWrangle shows the smallest size it reached and explains why. Then try, in this order:
- Switch the level to Strong.
- Turn on Convert pages to images. This rebuilds each page as a compressed image and gets scans much smaller, but text can no longer be selected or searched.
- Remove pages you don't need with Delete pages, or send only the required pages with Extract pages.
- Rescan at a lower resolution, such as 150 dpi, which gives a cleaner small file than squeezing a high-resolution scan.
