Merge PDF files on a Mac

To merge PDFs on a Mac, drag the files from Finder onto this page, put the pages in order and click Merge. You get a new combined PDF in your Downloads folder and your original files stay untouched. Preview can combine PDFs too; this is the quicker route when you have several files or want to mix pages from them, and nothing is uploaded.

How to merge PDFs on a Mac

  1. Select the PDFs in Finder and drag them onto the tool, or click Choose PDFs.
  2. Every page appears as a thumbnail, in file order. Drag pages, or use ← and →, to mix them.
  3. Click ✕ on pages you don't want, such as cover sheets or blank pages.
  4. Click Merge N pages into one PDF. Safari or Chrome saves merged.pdf to Downloads.

What we found when we tested it

We ran the live tool on October 22, 2026 (PT) in headless Google Chrome 155 on Linux, with sample files we made for the test. We merged a 4-page file (pages P1–P4) with a 2-page file (B1–B2) and moved B1 to second place.

If you only merge two files now and then, Preview is fine. This tool helps with many files, with mixing pages, and when you don't want to risk changing an original.

Frequently asked questions

Can I merge PDFs on a Mac without Preview?

Yes. Drop the files on this page in Safari or Chrome, arrange the pages and click Merge. Nothing is installed or uploaded.

Will my original files change?

No. The tool only reads them and saves a new file called merged.pdf.

Can I put a page from one file between pages of another?

Yes. All pages are in one list; in our test page B1 from the second file landed between P1 and P2 of the first.

Why are my bookmarks gone?

Pages are copied into a new file, and bookmarks, title, author and form fields aren't carried over.
