Preview can do this too

Preview has a signature tool in the Markup toolbar. Apple's guide describes creating a signature with the trackpad, with your Mac's built-in camera (sign on white paper and hold it up), or on an iPhone or iPad, then dragging and resizing it on the page, and the signature can sync through iCloud. If you sign on the same Mac regularly, that's convenient. This tool is handy on a Mac you don't usually use, since nothing is saved to the computer, or when you want a typed signature in a handwriting font or a transparent PNG of your signature (Download transparent PNG).

Frequently asked questions

Can I sign with my MacBook trackpad?

Yes. Draw in the signature box with one finger on the trackpad. If it looks shaky, try Type instead and pick a handwriting font.

Is this a legally binding digital signature?

It adds a picture of your signature, not a certificate-based digital signature. Whether that's enough depends on the document and on who asked for it.

Is my signature saved on the Mac?

No. The tool doesn't keep it. Click Download transparent PNG if you want a copy to reuse.

Can I sign more than one page?

Yes, one page at a time: download the signed PDF, open it again and place the next signature.
